Paul Kenworthy, DMD

Diplomate, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine

Meet Dr. Kenworthy

Dr Kenworthy grew up in Brattleboro, VT and is a graduate of the University of Vermont (’78) and Washington University School of Dental Medicine (’84).  Following graduation from dental school he and his wife Ellie returned to Burlington where he completed a general dental residency at Fletcher Allen Health Care (now University of Vermont Medical Center).  Upon completion of the residency program he began his career in general dental practice. At that time the family size started to increase with the births of  daughter Allison and son Graham.  He was honored to serve the Vermont Army National Guard as a dentist from 1989 to 1996.  He has been active in organized dentistry at the local, state and national levels.  Dr Kenworthy was a member of the Executive Board of the Vermont State Dental Society from 2003 to 2010 serving as President from 2009 to 2010.  He also had the opportunity to serve on the American Dental Association’s Council on Dental Practice for four years.

Dr Kenworthy has always been very active with continuing education.  This has helped insure that patients receive not only excellent clinical care, but care that is delivered in a comfortable and welcoming environment.  As a result of this continuing education, he developed an interest in the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing (snoring & sleep apnea).  He has developed a passion for helping patients with these issues.  This treatment can be life-changing for patients and it is incredibly rewarding to provide this care which is done in careful collaboration with the patient’s medical providers. He started providing these services in 2007.  In 2014 he completed an extensive credentialing process and was boarded as a Diplomate from the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, the first in the state of Vermont. This recognition gives patients reassurance that they are receiving care from an experienced provider with a demonstrated background of expertise in this field. As the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine states, “certification signifies to patients, colleagues and professional organizations in both medicine and dentistry that Dr Kenworthy has met established qualifications and demonstrated a thorough understanding of oral appliance therapy.”  To help increase the awareness of this field and of the role that dentists can play in helping improve patient’s lives, he has given presentations to a number of health care provider and community groups.

He looks forward to many more years of helping patients and gives a big thank you to all of the patients that have allowed him to serve them!  Dr Kenworthy and Ellie have a passion for skiing, kayaking and mountain biking.  They also serve as volunteer coaches for the Caledonia County Special Olympics snowshoe team.
